Massanutten Cemetery Company was originally chartered and incorporated as a stock corporation in May 1886 by citizens of the town of Woodstock, Virginia, with the charter approved by the 12th Judicial Circuit of Virginia. In 2005, the cemetery entity was re-formed as a non-stock, non-profit corporation under Virginia law. In 2014, Massanutten Cemetery was officially granted non-profit/charitable entity status by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(13) cemetery company.
The cemetery is located in the heart of Woodstock, Virginia, at 130 Benchoff Drive, behind Massanutten Military Academy and one block off of Main Street (U.S. Route 11/Old Valley Pike). The cemetery property consists of approximately 14 acres, and plots for burials (including cremation) are currently available for sale.
The cemetery has great historical value. Many of the town’s most prominent past citizens are buried at Massanutten. It is also the burial site for approximately 70 Confederate soldiers who were disinterred and reburied in the Holly Circle area of the cemetery in approximately 1899.
